Mission and History

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to end family homelessness one family at a time. We do this by engaging faith-based and community organizations to provide emergency shelter and basic needs to families with children who are experiencing homelessness and to provide additional programs to assist them in finding housing and sustaining their independence.

OUR VALUES

Children are what motivates everything we do at Family Promise. We are doing everything in our power to end family homelessness so no child ever has to experience it. We want kids to be kids and not to worry about whether there will be dinner tonight or where they will sleep when it’s dark. We want to bring them joy in a crisis and create a brighter future for not only them, but their future children as well.

OUR HISTORY

In the early 1990s, Savannah ministers identified a critical need for homeless intervention, leading to the formation of the Interfaith Hospitality Network of the Coastal Empire (IHNCE) in 1998. By 2005, seed money from the Episcopal Church funded a permanent Day Center, completed in 2007. Rebranded in 2015 as Family Promise of Greater Savannah, the organization expanded to Effingham and Bryan Counties. Effingham County launched its program in 2013, establishing a new home by 2018. Bryan County began efforts in 2013, launching a “Building Lives” campaign by 2015. In 2020, the three affiliates merged to form Family Promise of the Coastal Empire (FPCE).
